South Carolina - The Sex Toy Free State?
According to the Associated Press, South Corolina is presently considering a bill to outlaw the sale of sex toys. Rep. Ralph Davenport has proposed legislation that would make it a felony to sell devices used primarily for sexual stimulation and allow law enforcement to seize sex toys from raided businesses. We wonder who will test the standard that of the toy being used "promarily for sexual stimulation."
According to the Beaufort Gazette "the South Carolina law borrows from a 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling to define obscene as something "contemporary community standards" determine as 'patently offensive' sexual conduct, which 'lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value.'"
Without sex toys there are sure to be less smiling faces in South Carolina.
